crossposting on legal advice, i live in ontario canada since i know laws probably vary by location
so a long while ago (we're talking at least a couple month now) this kitten just up and waltzed into my house one day and my family decided to keep it in part since nobody seemed to be looking for it and its dangerous to leave such a young cat unattended in our area (lots of other neighborhood cats/coyotes at night). But also partly because my family members (grandma/little brother especially) grew super super fond of it. Now we're already off to a bad start because in hindsight I've acted really irresponsibly, because I've never taken the little guy to the vet since I got him. He could be chipped or something and completely unvaccinated and I wouldn't know (he's definitely not neutered either). I've been so caught up with school and work that I just couldn't find the time to schedule an appointment until now since my classes are cancelled.
If he's chipped what should I do irt to contacting the owner and apologizing for any heartbreak I might've caused? And how much legal trouble am I going to get into for having an unchipped/unvaccinated cat and what can i do to minimize it (really not in a place where i can afford huge legal bills..............)
