I got a scratcher hut from PetSmart today for my kittens. It's basically just a cardboard hut with corrugated cardboard inside to be a scratcher. I've had one before, and the kittens broke it after a while just by being rowdy.
One of my kittens has started chewing on it. It's the kind of cardboard with one side that's colorful and shiny. It has little cardboard pieces that stick out to lock the panels in and I came over to see that she had pulled several out/ripped them and chewed on them. She also has chewed away some of the cardboard from the edge. It isn't a lot, but I don't know how much she's swallowed. Doesn't look like she ate any big pieces. I assume little bits of cardboard she can pass, but I'm worried she'll get an obstruction.
I'll keep an eye on her to see if she vomits or stops eating, but should I take the hut away? I wasn't expecting her to go at it like this. She's chewed on cardboard before, but not nearly this much, and she didn't do it with the last hut. She has a ton of toys, food is always out, etc, so I don't know what I could do to stop her from chewing on it. I don't really want to throw it away because it was $20 and was a pain to assemble, but I will if she's going to keep trying to eat it.
