Why does my cat attack at night?

About a month ago my partner and I adopted a 7m/o cat. She was really shy at first but now she’s super cuddly with us... during the day. At night she gets the typical midnight crazies, which I don’t mind so much, and then she’ll jump up on our bed. Usually it isn’t a problem; she just walks around for a couple of minutes before jumping back down. But sometimes, if our feet are exposed, she’ll latch onto our legs and dig her claws in. It hurts really bad, and my partner has a pretty nasty scratch right now. Is there any way to stop her from doing this? Right now I’m kind of afraid to sleep with my legs out of the covers (which sucks because I can’t stand the feeling of my feet overheating 😂).
