Adopting a cat during covid 19. Please advise

So I and the wife went out to adopt a super awesome cat and we signed the forms and were so happy to have it with us. The adoption center will be releasing the cat to us in few days.

Now comes the evening and my mother in law just said it might be risky as cats can catch coronavirus.

It left us heartbroken , but we still want to have the cat come home. Wife is on the fence about it so it's getting hard to decide about adoption now.

I am hoping any one with better knowledge on the risk can respond here. Is there something I can do to make sure the cat is free of the virus? We really want to give the cat an awesome life with us.
