Adopting a cat that has been declawed

My fiance and I are in the process of re-homing an eight month old orange tabby whose elderly owner can't care for anymore. The cat has been declawed (terrible, I know). We want to approach this in the best way possible to make the cat comfortably acquainted here with us.

We know that a declawed cat has to be an inside cat and that's no problem because we wouldn't have it any other way. We DO already have a female stray that we adopted several years ago so I'm concerned that they may have a couple of negative interactions when getting to know each other and I don't want that to be at the expense of a cat that can't defend itself.

What are the best approaches to introducing this cat into our lives? What are your experiences with declawed cats? Please give me any information or tips. Thank you!!
