Our cat was found as a malnourished kitten. She was tested for FeLV prior to adoption and tested negative, however our vet said they can test negative despite having a sort of dormant infection. She has been an indoor solo cat since adoption.. Currently we are awaiting additional confirmatory tests and an ultrasound to see if she has any masses yet. This all came about when we got her checked in for mild weight loss, and her red blood cell count was so low our vet told us to get a blood transfusion for her that night.
I understand her life span will most likely not exceed 4 more years, and even 2 years could be a blessing. I am having trouble finding resources that talk more about adult cats getting the disease, and some of the end of life/palliative care options and scenarios aren't clear to me. I'm looking to see if anyone has had a similar situation and what resources they found helpful at the time. Thank you.
