Advice if you find a lost pet

I’m not sure if there’s a better sub for me to post this, but i wanted to share my experience from today. I was walking alone on some forest trails by my house when a german shepherd cake running from the direction i came. He caught up to me and was friendly, and i assumed his owners were down the trail following him. I waited 15 minutes and the owners didn’t come, so I brought him to my car and drove him to the police station. My advice is if you find an animal that you think is lost, hold your hand out like you’re holding food or something and get it’s attention. if it gets close enough try to hold on to it until you can get help. i said “what’s this, some food?” and he came running right over. I got lucky that he was so friendly and didn’t bolt on me. he got away from me a few times but i was able to get him to run back to me using the same method. Dogs owner picked him up from the station and all was well.
