I got a cat several days ago. He’s around a year old and he’s not fixed but I plan on doing so soon. He’s settling in well. He gets along with my dog for the most part. He’ll be rubbing on him one second and then hissing at him the next, and vice versa. My grandma, who I live with, has another male cat, who is unfixed but getting fixed this week. He likes my cat, but my cat is unsure of him, which is to be expected since he’s new. I didn’t mean for them to meet just yet, but the other cat snuck into my room.
Ok, so today my cat started acting weird. He is not a vocal cat at all, he didn’t even make a peep on the long ride home. He’s started looking me in the face and meowing and approaching me, and latching onto me while biting me. It’s really random and there doesn’t seem to be anything that triggers it. I have to pry him off of me and get up because otherwise he’ll try to do it again, then 10 mins later he’ll be all cuddly again. He acts like he wants to do it to my dog, too. I can tell he’s not playing by his body language.
My cat is otherwise VERY sweet and affectionate and mellow. He’s the most loveable cat I’ve ever had. Most of the time he’s just chilling on my lap or sleeping on/under my bed. It honestly scares me when he does it because I don’t know what to do about it when he does it and I don’t know when he’s gonna do it.
I asked the person I got him from about this, and she said it didn’t happen when he was with her. Apparently he used to be in a cat sanctuary with other animals and he had no type of behavioral issues with humans or animals.
So I’m just wondering, could it be an underlying medical problem? Or could he be hormonal due to being unfixed? Or because there’s another male unfixed cat in the house? Or is he just not getting enough attention and this is his way of saying he needs more?
Like I mentioned, I’m getting him neutered ASAP and will bring this up to the vet. I just don’t know what to do about it until then. I don’t want to be nervous around him but I’m scared he’s gonna do it while I’m sleeping, and I’m also scared of my dog trying to protect me from him.
