Dog smells awful, no clue why, getting worried

So one day my mom noticed that my dog (goldendoodle) had various dark coloured smudges/spots on her. They smelled..... horrendous. I would compare it to the smell of vomit, but more strong and bacterial. After giving her a thorough wash, the two areas on her nose/back seemed to go away, and the smell along with it.

But the area on her ear, while disappearing visually, would not stop smelling. I am beginning to suspect the issue is present inside of her ear, as she has fairly large droopy ears, and may be prone to infection. The smudgy substance may have perhaps dislodged from her ear while sleeping in her curled position or whatever and spread elsewhere. However, she never shakes or droops her head and seems visibly confused when we well-meaningly swarm around her and try to figure out what the hell is going on. The smell really is that bad. Its not comparable to what I’ve heard the smell of a yeast infection described as. This is creeping me out a bit. Any advice, explanation, or past experiences appreciated!
