Help: Cat Swatting Dog For No Reason

My cat and dog are best friends typically. When my cat hears the dog coming downstairs where I often watch TV, she literally bolts up to greet him. She’s an indoor cat but I sometimes let her outside on a nice day while I stand in the backyard and she follows the dog around the yard, she loves standing under him and I’m always worried she’ll get peed on. Heh. They cuddle together overnight and often I get woken up by the sound of them licking each other.

The last couple of weeks, the cat has been going out of her way to jump up onto the bed to swat him when he first gets up. She’s not even on the bed or in the same room, but when she hears him go up in the bed she will stop what she is doing bolt into the room and attempt to swat him in the face. Sometimes she is so fast I don’t even have time to distract her or give her a firm no so the dog ends up with claws on his face very confused. She sometimes comes back for round two even after being firmly told no and scolded a little, as she did this evening.

Any advice on what to do and what is going through the cat’s head? It hasn’t seemed to effect their relationship so far, but I would hate for that to happen if this goes on long term.
