a few days ago, i just adopted a cat who had been surrendered by his previous owner. he’s been declawed (by his previous owner) and because of this he has to be an indoor only cat & none of the cats ive ever owned have been indoor only cats or have been declawed, so im kinda having a hard time w this as i have no experience. sammy always wants to go out & i let him out w supervision but i dont let him roam by himself. because of this, he escapes all the time. as of now, he hasnt gone far, only hanging out in the front and backyard, and he comes to me when i shake the treat bag and i havent had trouble getting him back inside. its just i feel bad keeping him indoors all the time because all of my cats have been both indoor/outdoor and were left to come in and go out as they pleased. i feel bad keeping sam inside all the time but i also understand that in certain situations he cant defend himself if i let him out by himself. its a tough situation, as i do not have experience with declawed/indoor only cats. how do i deal w him always wanting to be outside / escaping? would it be safe to let him outside? the area i live in is very safe & my other cats have never had major issues. if not, how can i keep him inside + how can i stop him from wanting to go outside all the time? like its just hard keeping him indoors because he is incredibly smart and has found every possible way to get out, and i want to let him out to be free and explore, but the declawing is an issue. if anybody has any experience w declawed cats / this or similar situations, please help me out.
