Hi, my dog is 8 years old and has always sleep in his bed that is in the kitchen. During daytime he is allowed to be in my room or in the living room.
When my parents weren’t home, I would try to make him sleep with me all night, but he preferred to go to his bed.
One night, we were sleeping and my dad was supposed to take him to the kitchen to sleep, but unfortunately my dad forgot. My dog ended up sleeping all night with me. The next night, when we tried to take him back to the kitchen, he wouldn’t. I had already fallen asleep, and my parents were to tired to fight him so they let him sleep with me that second night.
Since then, he won’t sleep in his bed without a fight. He always tries to open the door and has already damaged it with his scratching, and he won’t stop trying to get out for a very long time. We are desperate, we put a chair in front so he wouldn’t be able to open it.
I sometimes believe he doesn’t see me as an authority as I would always defend him when my parents were being mean of something. I can’t do anything and my parents struggle every time to get him to bed.
If someone has any advice, we are all ears.
