A couple weeks ago I bought my 10 month old cats a cardboard scratcher hut. Basically a corrugated cardboard flat scratcher with a cardboard house around it. One of my cats decided she loved to chew at the cardboard sides, and I took it away because I was afraid she would eat the cardboard and get an obstruction. The cardboard is colored and shiny on one side, and really stiff. After I took it away she's been going after normal cardboard boxes, tape, and paper, and also trying to pull curtains/tapestries down. She didn't mess with curtains before she started chewing on cardboard, so I don't know if that's related or if she just figured out that she could.
She has plenty of toys, including interactive ones, and also a brother to play with. I play with them both almost every day with their string toy too, and I play fetch with her when she wants. I wonder, though, if it's better to let her shred that cardboard since she seems to really it and it gets out some desire to be destructive. It also seems better to let her at that than the cardboard covered with tape and stickers (I have these other boxes either because I'm waiting for the days garbage is picked up to take them out or I'm keeping the box in case I ever need it). Is it ok to let her shred cardboard?
