hello!
my girlfriend and I are going to be getting our own place soon. we have lived together at my moms house for a few months now, and each had a cat before we met. Stella (approx. 6, loves people, sleeps all day, declawed by previous owners, bullied by the cats she lived with before my gf got her), and Willa (a little over 1, very playful/hunterlike, loves people but temperamental, has been the only cat around since i got her when she was about a month old). we have had lots of trouble getting them acquainted, and currently they live separately (Stella, my girlfriends, stays in our room while Willa, mine, roams the house). this is not ideal for multiple reasons, however every time we have tried to introduce them/get them used to each other they follow the same patterns: Stella will growl, hiss, and swat at Willa every time she comes near her, and Willa will escalate the situation by chasing Stella. part of the reason Willa roams the house is because she is a lot more active and she has grown up with the whole house as her own so her scent is everywhere. Stella does just fine in her room, but ideally when we move we wouldn’t have to separate them.
I’m looking for tips on how to get them to chill tf out and how to help them adjust to each other, how to prepare them for the move, and how to get them used to a new place. any tips and ideas about how to handle this would greatly appreciated!
