My dog is 7 this year and when we first got her around 7 months, she used to bark a lot because she wasn't trained properly yet. A neighbour had complained to the council and we ended up with a letter from council telling us that if we can't stop her from barking, they would have to remove her. Since then, she only really barks when someone takes their bins out because it sounds like thunder.
So fast forward to about 3 years ago, we got new, very unfriendly neighbours who didn't want to socialise with anyone (there have also been other incidents where they have been nasty but I don't want to go into it). They have a boy around 11yrs old. Over the past year, the boy has been purposely hitting our shared fence to get my dog riled up and have been trying to climb over the fence (sticking his arms over and calling her) to get her to jump at him. My dog is really friendly but she doesn't like people trying to climb into the backyard.
I've caught the boy trying to stick his arm over the fence and throwing things at my dog and I've told him to stop when I see it happening. One time, I caught him with his arms over the fence and my dog trying to jump at him, with his Dad laughing and encouraging him to so I told him not to climb over because he could get hurt. There was a bit of back and forth until his dad said that if my dog bites his son's arm, then it'll be my dog's fault. There is no reasoning with him at all and I have done everything I can to stop them.
The child continuously hits the fence tries to antagonise my dog with his parents' encouragement so there is no talking to them. We have reported them to our council but they said there is nothing they can really do.
Is there anything I can do to protect my dog and build a case so that if someone complains about her barking or if she hurts the boy while he tries to climb into my property, she doesn't get sent away or put down? I live in NSW if that helps.
