Help. I realize I messed up by allowing my foster dog to sleep in my bed in the first place, just need help on what to do now. He’s a 4 year old foster pit mix, he will still occasionally choose to sleep in other places in the house but I am realizing it would be better for him to not sleep in my bed. He’s been here since mid April.
We’ve been making a lot of progress with crate training, and he’ll even nap in there. But I tried having him go in there at night when we’re getting ready for bed. He will last about 2-3 hours before whining. After reading advice I take him out to pee and put him right back in but the whining progresses to barking. I repeat for an hour and it will only get worse. Now reading the internet I should just ride it out but I have upstairs neighbors with kids. Again I realize this is my fault for letting him get attached to sleeping in the bed in the first place I’m just figuring out what to do now.
There is a loveseat in my room he also likes to sleep on. So after the crate attempt I have been encouraging him to sleep there instead of the bed. Is it worth still trying the crate at night if I can’t commit to the barking? Should I just encourage him to sleep on the loveseat so I can make progress getting him off the bed?
