my 2 cats keep trying to kill eachother

I have 2 cats that are siblings, one boy and one girl. They're 3 years old and up until a few weeks ago their fighting has always been playful. But a few weeks ago we heard weird screeching noises in the basement and a ton of movement. When I went downstairs to check my cats they both ran in opposite directions, I checked on them and they looked startled and were afraid to go near me and their tails were puffed and looked massive. When I stood still and didn't approach them they would slowly creep up to stare at each other and looked like they were about to attack so I grabbed the female and brought her into my room with me to chill out which took about 30 minutes. She tried her hardest to scratch and break free on the way.

My cats have never been hostile to each other, have and still are playful with each other. But maybe once or twice a week they have these explosive outbursts where they get into really violent fights. I don't know how or why they start I know they're happening from the loud ass screeches they make, I got woken up this morning by them doing this and had to forcefully separate them again.

But all the other time they're completely fine with each other, so I don't know exactly what the cause is or how to get them to stop for good.

Anyone know what I could do about this?
