I've always wanted a pet, and just recently managed to convince my parents to let me get a cat. However, since I'm 17 years old and going to college in about a year, I'm worried about leaving the cat alone just a year after I've adopted it and (presumably) bonded with it. My parents have assured me they're fine with taking care of the cat while I'm in college, but they do get busy and stay late at work from time to time. I'm just worried if it'd be neglectful to leave the cat alone for a year, or even longer if I happen to go to college out of state. Should I just wait some years until I graduate college to get a pet? Or am I worried for no reason?
