My cat has recently been throwing up and it concerned me enough to bring her to the vet. I have pet “insurance” that gives me discounts at certain pet vets. I recently moved home from college, and had to change the vet my cat goes to. I looked to a vet that my cousin recommended. The problem is, they are all booked up for the next week. Luckily, they take walk ins. The other vet our family uses in the area doesn’t. But here I am waiting 3 hours to get my cat seen.
In my college town, it wasn’t this bad, but when I didn’t wait at all for walk ins, they were also not the best vet, would try to upsell me, etc.
I understand that they have appointments. I know there are pet emergency centers. But I don’t want to pay $150 to get my cat seen and told she is ok, or even $150 on top of what it costs for any treatment. I am ready to pay for the treatment she needs, don’t get me wrong. But $40 is much easier to pay. I guess I’m giving up my wait time to pay less. I have also had bad experiences with pet emergency centers, trying to get me to do unnecessary treatments as well.
Is this normal? Should I find a better vet? Is there a pet insurance you recommend(I’m currently paying about $15/month with a service my family has been using for years) It’s insane the amount of time and energy it takes to walk into a vet’s office, and I’m sick of going from vet to vet trying to find one I can count on. I bring my cat in for check ups, but what about in an emergency situation? I shouldn’t have to pay an arm and a leg, or wait a week and hope my cat doesn’t die for an appointment, just so my cat can get reliable service.
