I have a 4 year old dog that had IVDD surgery in February. When he had the surgery we were not told nor did we know ourselves that the dog would be incontinent. I take him 2 times a week to a physical therapy facility, and he can walk, but he can’t go to the bathroom on his own or jump. I have not had success using diapers because the anal region of skin becomes extremely irritated and bloody when it doesn’t have proper air flow. The vet recommended to not use diapers. I love my dog a lot and am lucky I am working from home during covid but when I return I don’t see how I will be able to express his bladder every 6 hours. There is usually a lot of shit everywhere and lot of laundry required. This morning I gave him a bath and when he shook after I took him out he flung 20 pieces of shit all over my hands and feet and anything in the bathroom near by. Does anyone else live this way?
Has anyone euthanized their dog because of this? I don’t really know what to do.
