I have a 3 month old kitten who has been phenomenal with litter training. She had it down the first day of being home with me at 6 weeks old (was thrown out of a vehicle onto a busy road, kitten was then brought to me). Myself and my boyfriend have been stable presences in her life since then, she has regular vet visits, toys that stimulate her chase/stalk instincts, lots of cuddle time since I'm unemployed currently and a bff dog playmate. Other than the occasional biting, she's never given us any behavioral problems until tonight.
My boyfriend and I had gone to bed and she had climbed up as per usual. All of a sudden my boyfriend tells me to turn on the light and is visible upset. Light goes on, covers go back, and the biggest urine stain I've ever seen is right where his legs were. She peed on him!! Just out of the blue!
She's my first pet as an adult so I feel responsible for her; I feel awful! Like I've messed up somehow or failed her in some way. It's like she held it in all day, the sheer quantity of it.
Do I need to go back to doing what I used to when I first got her which is sit her in the litter box and just wait till she uses it? I don't want to seclude her at night because I feel like I'm punishing her which may make the behavior worse.
Help please!!
