Should I call, and demand to speak to my vet?

My elderly cat has been constipated for a while, and switched to wet food. She was still constipated last night so I called, and it turns out I was suppose to ne giving her pumkin, so i gave her some last night. Last night, she was trying to go poop, but couldn't. Shortly after I find a poop on the ground. I told the vet that this morning. Not the vet, but the receptionist. She let me leave a voicemail for the vet. I aksed if I should bring the vat in, but she said to wait for the vet to tell me what to do. Anyways, we ran out if wet food. It's expensive, so I wanted to know if I could just put water on her dry food, and feed it to her like that. Since my mom was in town, I had her stop buy, and my mom asked. She said she made the receptions call the vet, so they did, and then we were told we could use the dru food. Anyway, I wonder why they would let my mom talk to the vet, but not me. Shes actually my moms cat, but I'm usually the first person they call. Should I wait until the vet calls, and tells me what to do, or demand to speak to her like my mom did? I dont want to he confrontational, because I've had a lot of good experiences with this vet. I just want her to call me to tell me what to do, because I dont want the vat to go on longer then she has to like this. She seems fine, but I know shes constipated. Sorry if this doesnt make sense. I'm typing in a rush. She has hyperthyroidism btw, idk if that matters though.
