I adopted a 3 month old kitten and brought him home today. As soon as I took him out of his carrier he ran under my bed and has been reluctant to come out. I gave him space for most of the day but he hasn't eaten or used the litter, he's just been exploring my room (he let me hold and pet him for about half an hour but we didn't really get any play time today and I kind of expected this because he's probably nervous, but I don't know why he hasn't eaten. I'm giving him the same food he's been eating). I know it takes time for him to adjust especially because he just came from a foster home and it's only his first day, but he keeps running away from me and hiding under my bed. I mopped and swept under my bed before he arrived but I'm still worried about him breathing or eating/picking up any dust that may still be down there. Even right now as I type this he's meowing... I don't know if he's trying to get my attention or if he's bored but whenever I get up to come near him he just runs back under my bed again.
I guess my question is, how do I make my kitten's adjustment process easier for him? I have read so many bringing a kitten home guides and I have been following them closely, but I want to hear from other cat owners what worked for them. I just want to get my cat to like me!! I know I have to be patient and with time he'll adjust but I'd love to hear from anyone who's had a similar experience.
Tl;dr my new 3 month old kitty is nervous and keeps running away from me and hiding under my bed. How do I get him to stop being so scared of me :(
