My female cat usually tolerates my male but will attack him for days after he/they go to the vet?

I just don't know what to do, the closest behaviorist is like 3+ hours away and i don't want to subject them to that.

My older cat (male) is 8 and my younger cat (female) is 6. They were born in the same house and have known each other their entire lives. My male is about twice as large as my female, but it's the female that will constantly attack him - their food and water is separate and they have plenty of places to hide. Normally she will tolerate him and only smack him sometimes if he walks too close to her, but after the vet he can't even come into the living room or she'll stare at him and finally chase him out. He just runs away and never tries to defend himself. Right now he's in the bedroom because he's too scared to come into the living room, and it's just not fair. He's never done anything to her to deserve this.

I don't know if maybe it's because she's jealous (she constantly meows for attention, probably for a combined 2-3 hours a day, wakes us up in the morning by yelling at us because she wants us to come into the living room with her) of seeing us pet him instead or because she is upset they went to the vet and he smells like the vet. I don't think it's medical because this has been her personality pretty much forever - we had 8 cats and she'd only be totally okay with her mom + siblings around her.

Anyone have any tips? I'm half venting, half looking for answers.
