posting this in case anyone else finds it helpful. slippery elm is a powdered herb that is said to soothe and protect the digestive tract.
so my dog gets colitis every few months, bloody diarrhea, bloated stomach, groaning and just very uncomfortable. this last time was worse than normal so I decided to try slippery elm.
Im open to trying things, but I was sceptical but I made up some syrup and gave her 3 doses a day for a couple of days, and after the 2nd dose her mood started to improve, her diarrhea went away, stomach bloating gone and she is back to her normal self.
caveat: she did see the vet about it, but since it doesnt happen very often he decided not to put her on medication for it.
Its said to be good for any kind of stomach inflamation, including that caused by kidney disease, so I recommend people try it. just keep the slippery elm dose an hour apart from any meds.
