Cat Scooting Habit

Hi guys,

I need some advice. I have a 1.5 year old female calico cat. I adopted her when she was 4 months old. She is adorable, sweet, playful, cuddly, and just the right amount of mischievous. I love her to pieces! The only real big issue I’ve had with her is that she scoots her butt across rugs/carpets after every time she poops. She almost never leaves any residue behind (only twice in her entire life here), but it’s still gross. I looked online and found that this is probably due to swollen anal glands or maybe worms. She had never had problems with worms before. So next time she was due for a physical I took her to the vet and told them about her scooting. The vet agreed it was probably swollen anal glands and so the vet tried very hard to relieve them but NO liquid came out. The vet tried for a long time (my poor kitty wasn’t happy), and concluded that it wasn’t swollen anal glands. I had also brought a stool sample and they tested it and found no worms. The vet told me that my cat must’ve developed this behavior early on and now it’s habit. I asked for advice on how to get her to stop scooting and all the vet had to suggest was to buy her her own mat to put next to the litter box for her to scoot on so she’s not scooting on my carpets…. I cant believe she suggested this for multiple reasons, mainly HOW am I supposed to get her to only scoot on one small mat, and even if I did manage to train her this would still be GROSS and I’d rather her not scoot at all.

I need advice because all the internet says is that she probably has swollen anal glands, which is not the case for me. Does anyone else have any more suggestions about how to train her out of this behavioral habit? Thanks!
