The night before I kept hearing meowing and discovered a kitten underneath my porch. It won't come to me but I left it some food. The next day it poked its head out but I couldn't get it to come to me. By the time night came, it came up onto the porch and got close but it still wouldn't come to me. It's meowed non stop. I bought a live trap and baited it and we finally caught it. I took it inside and let it out where it ran behind the couch, and it kept meowing all night. This morning when I got the kids up for school, the cat was meowing even louder and it did pop out somewhat and I did get close enough to actually reach out and pet it this time and then I picked it up. I was petting it for about a minute and it did actually purr but it got away from me again. Now it's behind the couch again continuing to meow. I know I should take it to a vet but it's very hard to get a hold of the kitten. It looks healthy and uninjured but I don't understand why it won't stop meowing. I'm also uncertain of its age but I looked at a picture guide online and it would at least be 5 weeks or older I would think.
I also have a mini rat terrier that I had to put in the back bedroom all night because her high pitched yipping will scare the kitten, but I can't keep her in there forever. I have to let her out but I'm afraid the kitten will get lost or stuck behind the couch in fear! I'm trying to get her to drink water but it's difficult.
