[Advise] my dad's German Shepherd and his Maine Coon are not getting along all of a sudden. Can use some advice on how to get them amicable again.

My dad asked me to do some research as he's not internet savvy. He has a young male Shepherd (3-4) and an older maine coon (about 9). The Shepherd is young and rambunctious and the cat is cuddly if not a little derpy.

We don't know what happened but the dog is getting defensive around the cat. Growling, showing teeth, and just recently snapped at him. The cat is non-aggressive and as far as we know, hasn't done anything to provoke the dog.

My dad is afraid it'll escalate further where the dog will hurt the cat, so I am here doing research for him on tips to try and fix this. Any suggestions you have, i would appreciate.
