New dog needs to lose a lot of weight, advice?

We took stray dog a couple of weeks ago. He’d been staying on my property since around September. He’s the sweetest dog ever and a real ginormous bear.

We took him to the vet last night and he’s close to 100 lbs, when he should be more mid seventies or low eighties, apparently. He also has arthritis in one of his legs which is exacerbated by his weight. He’s been given arthritis meds (and antibiotics for another issue) and we were told he really needs to lose weight.

So, how do I get him to lose weight? I just went and bought some “weight management” dog food of our preferred brand. Maybe a silly question but do I feed him the amount listed on the bag for his current weight, or the amount listed for what he should weigh?

Also, I have another dog who is a healthy weight. How do I keep new dog man here from sniping the other dog’s food? They both have free run of the house. I thought I could maybe put my old dog’s food in a room with the door closed, but then he’s now really gated to his own food bowl? Maybe I’m over thinking this.

Finally, new dog has to take about four to five pills a day right now. I bought him some of those pill treats to sneak his pills into. Will getting 4-5 “treats” a day like this sabotage his weight loss?

Thanks in advance, sorry if any of these questions seem a bit ridiculous.
