Bentley's Story

The story of Bentley

We have had Bentley for 4 years and in that time he has become a vital part of my family.

He lost his leg to the previous owners not knowing how to care for a dog. He was abandoned in a car park just outside of LA. He was tied to a fence by a piece of wire around his legs which most likely hurt him. He started to chew his own leg off to escape but this didn't help since the wire was too tight keeping him trapped. The wire saved his life preventing blood loss in the same way a tourniquet would. By the time he was found, flies were swarming him and he had a weight of 3 pounds. The experience has given him a phobia of flies when Bentley sees them he runs and hides.

The rescuers took him to the vet who was kind enough not to put him down. Bentley pulled through and was put up for adoption. That is when we took him in, he had a very nervous personality that has grown, to be very bold. He is like Monkey in the way that he thinks he is a human. He complains when he is woken up early or left at home when we go out. Bentley gained weight fast stopping around 7.5 pounds, a fence we used to own had gaps between it. When we first got Bentley he would jump through it, as he grew he would think that he could still jump through it, instead he would get jammed.

Today he is completely different to the timid puppy he was, but he still rolls on his back if you go near him to fast. He really likes older people especially when he can sit on his lap. We have a theory on what kind of people the previous owners were and how he was abandoned.

Our best guess is that he had 2 different owners. The first owner must have been someone older because of his comfort in older people. That owner probably died leaving a puppy to a family that didn't understand dogs. Bentley is quite a scavenger, probably developed by getting very little food. The family didn't know what to do with a dog who was starving. A starving dog would want food desperately so he must have snapped at one of the owners. They probably tried to get rid of him by leaving him in a car park. But this is all speculation based upon years with him.
