My 8 month old boy has been peeing outside his box for around 3 months now. I've taken him to the vet and she said that it's normal since he's not neutered and he's probably just spraying, but he barely ever uses his box anymore! I don't know if this is normal with spraying or if he doesn't want to use his box for some reason. I've tried keeping his box as clean as possible, giving him treats whenever he does use it, and taking him to his box whenever he's about to or already has peed but nothing seems to work. I'm also sure he knows I don't like it since whenever he's about to pee where he shouldn't and sees me watching, he stops.
Not only is it frustrating to clean the floor and furniture everyday but whenever he pees he tries to bury it and his paws get all wet so I have to wash them and he's extremely scared of the water. It makes me feel really bad washing his paws, so I try to do it as fast as possible and I end up not cleaning it well so now he always has a slight urine smell.
Some more info: I live in a small apartment and I have another 2 yr old cat besides him. They seem to get along well since they play together and bathe each other, but my eldest has a temper and will sometimes bat at him. I also lock him out of certain rooms he likes to pee in but he cries when I don't let him in and I don't like doing this. I don't yell or punish him when he goes outside his box since I read that it would only make him scared and stressed. He's also become a very picky eater lately to the point that I sometimes have to feed him by hand or he won't eat for hours, I don't know if this may be part of the problem or if it's completely unrelated?
Is there anything I can do to stop him from doing this or at least make it less frequent?
