Hi everyone,
I'm new to reddit so please forgive my formatting.
My husband and I recently adopted a male 5 month old kitten. He is cross eyed and a little bowlegged but just the absolute sweetest cat ever. We have another female kitten who is 7 months old and very sweet, as well. These two took to each other very quickly and are now inseperable partners in crime (y'all wouldnt believe what they get into lol).
Anyway, our female kitten is perfectly healthy. Our male however was diagnosed with a stage 4 heart murmur (even tho the agency we adopted him from said he was normal). The vet said it was too early to tell how bad it will really is and said he didn't expect him to live very long.
My husband and I were of course heartbroken but we didn't want to return him. We are determined to do what we can to help, but we are wondering if our vet was being a little pessimistic? One of my friends works as a vet tech and he says he has seen dogs live 10 years or more before they start having issues with a stage 4 heart murmur.
I wanted to be clear about not looking for vet advice as I didn't want the post to be removed. What I'm looking for is more anecdotes from pet parents with similar pets and what it has been like for y'all. And also how y'all have coped emotionally. It's been a little hard for us knowing we may not have him for long and knowing our other kitten has become so attached.
Thanks.
