I was driving home just now and I had to stop behind a red car stopped on a 2 way single lane street without a stop sign. I was stopped for about 5 seconds before a chocolate lab (dog) limped out from in front of the car, after which the red car drove away (rather quickly I might add). The dog then limped down the sidewalk. After multiple attempts of me (M 24 6"1') getting out of my car and trying to entice him to let me see his collar and his running away from me each time, he found a gate with a board missing on one side and he squeezed through it into someone (perhaps his owners?) backyard. I tried the ringing the front door bell several times but no one would answer, despite there being a vehicle parked in front of the house. A neighbor girl told me that the dog was also out walking around yesterday and that she did not notice him limping before.
Should I do something? The evidence I feel suggests he did in fact get hit by that car. I have 2 dogs myself and I would want to know if one of them got hurt. The dog jumped over a 4 ft high cinderblock fence while on his way so surely he is not severely injured. Still though it is terrible to think that the dog is in a backyard with possibly a sprained or broken leg with no one there. Also it bothers me that this dog has gotten out before. This tells me that it's a recurring issue that the owners refuse to fix. Perhaps I should mind my own business considering I have so few facts about what I witnessed, what are your thoughts?
