I have a 4 mo old kitten and he’s been crying outside my door early in the morning. I’ve tried to ignore it, but the other day, he cried for more than an hour and a half just be near me. I have roommates who need their sleep, so I just had to just finally give him attention to get him to be quiet. I just decided to do what worked when I first brought him home from the shelter: putting him in the bathroom with his litter, a cozy house, and a water bowl. He still cries for 5-10 minutes, but then he finally settles down.
He’s also pretty vocal already but doesn’t meow constantly throughout the day, just more frequently than most cats I’ve met. I’ve gotten him checked by the vet and my vet told me that’s it is probably just him acclimating to his new environment, but I’ve have had him for about 1 1/2 months. I am planning on getting a second opinion just to be sure. I have scheduled feeding times and 30 minutes of interactive play with me. In addition to that, he get a lot of play time with my roommates and his solo play time (tunnels, plushies, tree, etc.)
I’d like him to be able to have free roam of the apartment again, but We need our sleep in the morning. Any ideas on how I could stop this excessive meowing in the morning without having to lock him up? Or ideas on how to transition him from the bathroom to the whole apartment?
