Hi everyone, I’m in desperate need of help! We have two dogs, one (a Schnoodle) who I have had since a puppy and although can be spoilt and a bit naughty, she is trained. She’d never win an obedience competition but she knows how to sit and give paw and the general basics like house trained but then we have my other dog who is the complete opposite. We used to have a German shepherd who my schnoodle adored from being a puppy but when he passed away she really wasn’t herself so we wanted another dog to keep her company whilst we were at work but this time we wanted another small dog because we noticed she was a lot easier to maintain than the other big dogs we always had. We got a pug cross about 4 years ago and when we got him home we noticed he was quite stressed but thought it was just because he’d left his old home. He was over 1 year old when we got him so no longer a puppy and he hadn’t been house trained (which we didn’t know). We also think he’s been beaten in a previous home because he’s quite wary of hands even now, after almost 4 years he’s still wary if we put our hands near his head. I think he’s had quite a few homes and because of this gets extremely stressed if someone leaves the house, even a visitor. We also haven’t been able to house train him, I know people might think that after 4 years he should be house trained but he’s not easy to train. We tried everything we did with my other dogs but he constantly scents in the house and it’s ruining the laminate flooring and the skirting boards. He often poos as well. He never lets us know he needs to go out. We think he scents because neither him or my other dog have really decided who’s the ‘alpha’, most of the time my other dog is the boss but she’s never really asserted her dominance so I’m not sure if he scents because he’s trying to show he’s the boss? Long story short we really want to know if there are any other ways to try house train him like tips or what other people might have done in this situation. I hope I’m not alone in this situation. Both of my dogs get on really well and they do love each other and play all the time so it’s not because he’s scared of my other dog or doesn’t get on with her. Thanks to anyone who can help. :)
