Opinion on fixing found animals?

So I found a kitty that I originally thought might be feral last night, but he seems far too friendly to be feral. I'm thinking that he might belong to someone in my apartment, but I decided to take him home because it was cold and rainy last night and he wasn't fixed. Even if he is claimed by someone, I still kinda want to get him fixed, because I just don't believe that you should let your kitty outdoors if he's not neutered. I know that it might be weird as an owner to get your cat back after they've been fixed, but I'm not expecting an compensation or anything. I don't know, is that weird to get him fixed without knowing for sure if he has an owner? I'm also planning on getting all his shots up to date just to ensure that he can be around my other kitties until I either find his owner, or find a home for him.
