Should I take in a cat?

There is a cat that was posted on our neighborhood forum that needs a home. They say the cat is friendly and must have been abandoned. I feel bad thinking about how cold the cat is left outside. I wouldn’t mind taking him in and even drove over there twice to see if I could find him but couldn’t.

I’m hesitant to keep trying though. My dog is 14 years old and not crazy about other animals but I know he would get over it.

My vet bill today for my aging pet was over $200, so adding another pet is an added expense.

What do I do if I take the cat home and I’m allergic? I used to be really allergic but after several years of allergy shots I’ve gotten much better. My son’s cat doesn’t trigger my allergies, but if this one does then what do I do? I get attached very easily.

Please give me your advice. Thanks!
