I hate my girlfriend's guinea pig. If you even think about touching his water, he screams. Bump his cage in the morning and it rattles his water bottle? SCREAM. Have to get him more water? SCREAM. Did the dog brush against his water bottle? SCREAM. Also guinea pigs don't have long tongues, they don't quietly get water. They shove the spout in their mouth and shake it. Like, it's loud.
He also hates being held, or he's just calm enough to pee all over you without warning.
And consuming food... He's a princess. He won't eat vegetables at all. Hard dry pellets and hay only. And better yet, you have to tip the bowl when you give it to him, it can't be upright. If it is upright, he literally grabs the bowl, scatters the food across his cage and SCREAMS for more food.
and he associates anything with a reason to scream. He's recently taken to the sound of my coffee cup being put down on my desk in the morning. As soon as he hears it, 5 minutes after waking up, he's screaming like someone stabbed him.
It also doesn't help that guinea pigs were never domesticated as pets, ever. They were domesticated as food. They were bred to pack on weight to be good eating, they were bred to run to survive in outdoor pens, they were bred to scream when they wanted anything so farmers could get them fatter.
They're not a pet, they're an annoying POS lunch meat.
We've had him for 2 years, and I've resented him for the last 1.5.
