What are main differences between having a cat and dog?

First and foremost let me say this: I love them both!

But I always lived in an appartment so I always had cats but now we are moving to a new house with a big garden and I want to adopt a dog!

But I heard its very very different than having a cat. Me and my cat are kinda like flatmates,we both do our own thing usually and sometimes hang out together.

I heard that with a dog you HAVE to establish dominance or he/she will walk all over you. And I heard that they are also more in need of attention and more prone to loneliness.

I only go to office 3 days a week and I'm more than okay with giving her loads of affection and take her to walks etc but I'm not sure if I can do this whole alpha dog thing? And I feel like I also need to know more about the differences between two pets because I know by heart how to take care of cats and I feel like having a dog is whole other world.
