Acclimating outdoor kitten to new life!

Hi, all! Would love to hear advice/experiences with acclimating an outdoor and/or un-socialized kitten. My SO and I recently took in a 7 week male kitten who wasn’t being well cared for. The litter wasn’t being well fed or paid much attention to — thankfully most have been rehomed.

We’ve made lots of progress with him in just the past day or two. Lots of playing, belly rubs, and even some purrs!

I’m wondering how to help with his hide first instinct. He loves playing and getting pets but never approachs us (he’s been hiding then immediately coming out once we get toys out).

I also was very surprised that he wasn’t ~obsessed~ with our young female cat. She’s been watching and tried to approach a few times but leaves once she sees he’s afraid. She adores kittens and they’ve always acclimated to her demeanor quickly.

I’ve learned how to work with an adult cat who isn’t a fan of a new kitten but it’s a completely new ball game to have the new kitten be so cautious. I would love to hear feedback with this as well!

Kitten is in his own separate room with all amenities. Keeping all visits highly supervised and watching him quite consistently so we can work litter training since he’s been outdoor his whole life.
