So I'm sure this has been asked before so if this is repetitive, mods feel free to delete.
My husband and I recently adooted a 12 week old kitten. 90% of the time he is playful and sweet. 10% however accounts for when he gets overly excited and ends up scratching or chomping down on one of us. We've tried making "ouch" noises to let him know it hurts, walking away, putting him in time out. We try to use wand toys to play with him, at least 2 hours total everyday. He has plenty of toys that he also loves but for some reason still want to sit in our laps and attack our hands, legs, shirts ect.
If it was just biting it wouldn't bother me as much, as he has learned to be more gentle. But his tiny claws are so sharp. He has a scratching post but doesnt seem to want to use it at all. Besides the above the only other advice I've seen is to get another kitten which honestly is not in the stars right now.
Similarly, we have a problem in that he has ripped a hole in the bottom of the couch and now likes to climb around the springs and the inside of the backboard. We've patched the holes but he keeps making more. Should we reupholster with a thicker material?
I love this little guy but he definitely is a bit of a handful at times. Just looking for any advice on how to deal with his behavior.
