Is it wrong to adopt another dog fairly soon after the death of another one?

Not gonna lie, felt like a dick typing the title out. My little dude passed a few weeks ago. He was bright, full of energy, and absolutely the most loyal and loving dog I’ve ever had the pleasure of calling mine.

I was going to wait on adopting another one for awhile. It in a sense feels wrong to attempt to replace him. But I got a call this morning from my stepfather. He’s moving out of state and can’t take our family dog with him. She’s an old gal, half deaf, but insanely sweet. She’s been a part of our family since I was a kid.

He asked me if I wanted to take her. At first I was hesitant. I lost my dog so soon and this old gal will probably kick the bucket in a few years. But she’s also been with our family since she was a pup. It feels wrong to rehome her so late in her life when she has been such a great dog for our family. But it also feels wrong to adopt another dog so soon.

What do you redditors think? Give it time? I’m a dick for contemplating getting another dog so soon? Hit me with it!
