Took my cat to the vet for vaccines...he seems to be in pain?

Took my cat to the vet early in the day where he got 2 shots. He seemed fine afterwards, walked normally, and ate. Around 6 hours later he seemed too weak to even walk and ended up taking a nap. This nap was different than most naps because if you approached him you could hear him purring and he would usually chirp to acknowledge how close you are: this time he was quiet: no purring, and when I approached him or picked him up, he began to growl and hiss.

He is in pain and I am worried. Is this a normal response? Both injections were given to the thighs. I wanted to carry him to my room to sleep with me but he refuses to be carried.
