I live in an apartment with three pets: aforementioned male pets, and a fixed female dog. The dogs are siblings. Recently the cat has started marking, but it appears that recently that has stopped. The dog, on the other hand, has started to take up marking and become much more aggressive to the cat, when he used to have no problems with him.
Now, we've also noticed that the male dog has started to mount his fixed sister. What is causing this behavior in him that previously wasn't there? What can I do to minimize this behavior up until they're fixed?
The cat, when he was a kitten, would play attack but used his claws. He's grown out of that, and doesn't attack the dogs and there haven't been any problems for about a year, until now. I'm assuming it's because the cat has come into a maturity, and it's why he's marking and why the dog is responding, but nothing is set in stone.
We are working on getting the animals fixed, and right now we can't afford it. By the end of the month they both will be visiting the vet to get snipped.
