Hi friends!
I found a scared dirty kitten in a neighbors garage a little over a week ago, she was covered in grease starving and had a huge cut on her eye and little burns on her paws. She seemed pretty traumatized at first but she immediately attached to me and brightened up a lot, she’s healthy and has learned how to play and seems to like my other cats so far!
The only sticking point is my large but extremely cat friendly dog. The last kitten I got warmed up to him within a day, but that kitten had lived a pampered life. My dog is so good with cats, he sits perfectly still and shows no interest in the kitten other than a gentle sniff and a tail wag but the poor thing doesn’t even like to look at him.
I started with through a baby gate and she does fine with him there, then letting him slowly into the room that she’s in and even have gotten her to play with a toy distractedly and chill while he’s a foot or so away but the second she notices him again she turns into an angry puff ball. I know it takes time, is there anything more I can do to help her besides slowly keep doing what I’m doing? Give her treats when he’s near by? Maybe put them in a room that isn’t “her” room? Put her in her crate and let him roam the room?
