How to know when it's time to put an older pet down?

Hello r/pets

Lately (for a few months now) I've been struggling to figure out whether or not I should put my 15ish year old mini poodle down. I feel a lot of guilt, and I dont know if I'm considering this for the right reasons because I think maybe my judgement is clouded due to frustration. I would love any advice or insight.

For the past 2 years he has had to wear belly wraps, as he developed kidney disease and cannot hold his pee. During the last few months he has been unable to hold his poop and poops indoors at least once or twice a day, along with randomly leaking. He has bad joints and is on medication, but still struggles greatly with stairs and with keeping his balance. He attacks groomers now (I have to groom him myself). He doesnt like to be held anymore. He doesnt like to cuddle anymore. Sometimes he just walks laps around our bottom floor like he doesnt understand where he's going and is just generally confused. He sleeps 90% of the day.

On the other hand, nothing is physically wrong with him other than his joints and kidney disease. He doesnt seem unhappy or in pain, he just doesnt seem like he's "there" most of the time. Once a month or so he'll make an attempt at playing with our other dog by humping his face for like 10 seconds (the only time he shows any signs of having fun.) He still enjoys pets I think, but no longer seeks us out for them and only likes them for a short amount of time. I dont think he's unhappy, he's just not him anymore.

I'm afraid that my frustration between the pee, poop, and aggressiveness is clouding my judgement. I dont want to put him down because I'm annoyed. I AM annoyed by him though. I love him, and he's been my best buddy for 8 years, but I am so frustrated. I legitimately dont know if the thought of putting him down is coming from a place of frustration or a place of love. I feel like such a bad person.
