I’m in the process of adopting a two-year-old female cat from the shelter (waiting for them to get her spayed and then I can bring her home). I’ve seen her a few times volunteering at the shelter and from talking to the staff it seems like she hides underneath a cat bed pretty much 24/7, only coming out to use the litter box. She’s been in the shelter for over 2 months and I knew no one would ever adopt her so I decided to take her home. I think for the most part it will be a good fit since I live alone and am very quiet. My other cat, though (neutered male, 3yo) is very sociable and playful. I’m prepared to spend a lot of time getting new cat comfortable and used to my presence, but I’m still not quite sure what to do about the introduction to resident cat. I’ve read from some sources that I should spend weeks introducing them, but others say that semi-feral cats prefer the company of other cats over humans and should be introduced within a matter of days so that the new cat can watch the resident cat’s behavior and essentially learn how to be a house cat. Anybody try either method and have any advice?
