I live in an apartment with 1 roommate. She has a bedroom downstairs and I have the loft upstairs, with no doors. I got my first cat 6 months ago and everything was fine. My cat would spend time with me in my room, eat in my room, use the litter box etc. and sometimes go downstairs to explore.
Then, my cat got fleas 2 weeks ago. I never had a cat before, and figured I didn't need to give it flea medication since he is indoors. Our screen door leading to the patio broke recently, so my roommate and I think he got outside for a bit.
By that point our apartment was infested with fleas.
Took my cat to the groomers to get a flea bath, then he was put in a cage with a dryer to dry him off.
When he got home I put him in my bathroom to dry.
Now he is always in my roommates room. He doesn't acknowledge my rooommate, my roommate's cat or my roommate's dog. He just goes straight in her closet and stays there all day. My roommate leaves her door open so her cat and dog can go in and out.
He's been eating my roommate's cat's food and his poops are liquidy because of the kibble change. He shat in my roommates shower 2 nights ago because he was using her cat's litterbox but we locked him out of her room and he refused to use HIS litterbox in my room.
I live in a loft so I don't have any doors, I've tried blocking things off, he finds a way out and always goes STRAIGHT to my roommates room. He used to sleep in my bed every night.
So I tied him on a cat harness leash to my bed last night. My roommate helped me get the harness on and she made it too loose and he got out of it this morning when he was scratching.
My plan is to make the harness a little tighter and just have him at a minimum stay leashed in my room at night and in the mornings, then when I go to work he can do whatever he wants. When I get home to just ask my roommate to keep her door closed and let her pets in and out individually and close the door right after.
