Just adopted a sweet cat and when she gets super excited when I pet her (purr motor, paws kneading, etc) and she licks this one spot on her stomach obsessively.
Background: adopted this 2 year old female cat two days ago. Original owner really loved this cat, but had to re-home her because owner's baby is severely allergic to cats. So far, cat is wonderful with the move. She is curious, cuddly, and follows us around. We can even call her and she'll come. She seems really comfortable and hasn't been stressed out. The licking behavior occurs when I pet her, but not when the bf pets her. She seems more relaxed with me. She licks, and when I try to block the area with a hand she meows at me until I move it. I'm worried she'll lick herself raw or that it is indicative of a bite or something- though the area is clean and no obvious sign of something. She licks what looks like a skin tag or a nipple, but doesn't like when I explore the area too much (but doesn't act hurt). I'll stop petting her, she'll lick for another minute and then calm down and then I will start petting her again and she goes at it. It doesn't seem like a stress thing, but is this behavior okay? Should I be worried?
