Owners left their dog dying in the balcony. Need advice plz.

Hi guys, The owners who lived upstairs were absolutely terrible. I’m glad they were forced to vacate, but they did something extremely cruel before leaving. They left their dog and locked it in the balcony. My dad called the animal control center, and they said they will pick it up in 15 days.

What the actual f. It will die in 15 days. Today my dad and I went to the apartment upstairs to give it some food and water. It was a really big dog, but seemed to be really clean and not vicious or anything (very hungry tho). It was next to a pile of dog poop that collected over the days.

We barely were able to slightly open the door and give it some pieces of bread. My dad threw some water at it too, but he’s afraid of dogs (and to be honest, the dog is really big and he was very hungry, so we didn’t wanna take any chances). He forbade me from going there anymore and said that the dog will open the door and attack us eventually (the door wasn’t locked because the lock was broken).

We feel really bad for the dog because it was so hungry that it devoured lots of bread in less than 30 seconds, and drank the water from the floor like it was licking off water molecules. I wanna help it further, but it’s a dangerous situation to go near it as it did try to come inside whenever we slightly opened the door.

There is an animal shelter, but it opens on Tuesday (2 days from now).

What should I do? I feel really bad about the dog’s situation and so does my family, but literally no one else in my neighborhood will help. They’re all selfish.
